Packing a Capsule Travel Accessory Kit

How to choose a small set of accessories that work across an entire trip.

1. Pick one neutral and one accent

   Choosing one neutral-toned accessory and one accent color keeps everything you pack mixable, instead of needing a matching set for each outfit.

2. Prioritize pieces that fold flat

   Bags, hats and scarves that pack down flat save the most luggage space relative to how often they get worn.

3. Think in outfits, not items

   Before packing, mentally pair each accessory with at least two outfits — if it only works with one, it's probably optional.

4. Leave room for one find

   Leaving a little extra space (and budget) for something picked up during the trip tends to get more use than an extra 'just in case' item packed from home.
